£250 school prize draw for completing transport for the future survey
Young people could earn their school a cash prize by sharing their views about transport in Southend this autumn.
Southend-on-Sea City Council is developing Southend’s Local Transport Plan 4, a document that will set out the policies and plans for transport in Southend to 2040, with the support of transport consultants Steer.
The Council is keen to ensure that more young people respond to a survey to give their honest views about travelling in and around the City and put forward their ideas for what transport should look like in the future.
This survey is specifically aimed at young people and the responses will enable the Council and Steer to better plan future transport in Southend-on-Sea. It should take about five to ten minutes to complete.
Steer has made available some prizes to incentivise schools to take part. Four respondents will be picked at random and their school will win a cash prize of £250 - so the more surveys that are completed by your school, the greater your chance of winning a school prize. The survey closes on Friday 21 October 2022.
Cllr Steven Wakefield, cabinet member for highways, transport and parking, said: “As the Local Transport Plan needs to plan for the future of travel in Southend it’s so important we also involve those who are the pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users and drivers of the future within our planning process. It’s wonderful that this survey will collect the views of our young people as they will become adults during the lifetime of the plan.
“It’s also great to see that there is a prize incentive, which will go to the winning schools, enabling them to spend the prize money on their pupils’ education.
“I look forward to seeing many more young people take part in the survey to try to win one of the four prizes for their school and help us plan for better local transport in and around the City of Southend-on-Sea.”
The survey initially opened in June 2022 and has so far generated some fantastic comments and ideas from our young people. The responses already received will be included in the prize draw.
