Bathing waters sustain quality ratings
Southend-on-Sea’s bathing waters have once again received a positive boost as the water quality at seven of our eight beaches has been rated as “Excellent” or “Good”.
Under the Bathing Water Regulations 2013, local authorities must provide information about water quality at the bathing waters in their area.
The results, which are released by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, show that the bathing waters in Southend-on-Sea have been well maintained over the past 12 months, enabling us to sustain our high level of results.
These results complete a fantastic year for the Borough’s beaches, after three of the beaches retained their prestigious Blue Flags, whilst all seven were awarded the ‘Seaside Award’.
Cllr Ann Holland, Executive Councillor for Culture, Tourism and the Economy, said “We are extremely lucky to live in a seaside town that offers such high quality beaches and bathing waters.
“Over the past few years we have improved and sustained these high standards that we set ourselves.
“Tourism is a major source of income to our town, and being able to boast results such as these can only help encourage more visitors to explore and visit Southend. The work of the foreshore teams must not go unnoticed. They all do a fantastic job to help us win and sustain these awards.”
