Bikeability this half term: Are you ready to ride?
Monday 3rd October 2016
Cycle Southend is offering two courses this half term (20th – 29th October) for young cyclists aged 10 to 14 years old.
Urban Cycling, held on the 24th October 09:00 – 13:00, starting at Chalkwell Park, is aimed at those who have already completed their Level 2 Bikeability and want to brush up on skills. This includes recognising typical hazards, how to ride safely on a variety of roads using the correct positioning for roads and junctions as well as route planning.
A Level 3 Bikeability course is also on offer this half term for those who have completed the Level 2 course and are ready to take on more challenging roads, including queuing in traffic, complex junctions, traffic lights and roundabouts. This course also covers route planning and riding to a place of local interest with their friendly instructors. Places are limited to six on this course, so early booking is essential.
Both courses require participants to have their own roadworthy bike and cycle helmet. Each course has a cost of a non-refundable commitment fee of £30.
For more information, to book a place on either of these courses and see other courses available, please go to the Cycle Southend website: www.cyclesouthend.co.uk or call 01702 215595.
Cllr Tony Cox, Executive Councillor for Transport, Waste & Cleansing said: “Bikeability is the National Standard for Cycle Training administered nationally by the Department for Transport. We are delighted to deliver these courses and many more to provide a safe, eco-friendly, healthy alternative transport.
“These courses are a great opportunity for young cyclists to improve on skills already learnt and continue to remain safe whilst cycling on our cycle paths and roads.”
