Children get creative with Easter packaging

Friday 10th April 2015

This Easter, Recycle for Southend teamed up with the Milton Community Partnership to show children how they can help the environment over the holidays.

On Tuesday, children from around the Milton ward showed that with a bit of creativity it can be easy to go green at Easter. Using fun Easter activities the children looked at waste in a different way, using cardboard boxes, plastic tubs and wrapping materials to create their own chocolate Easter egg packaging.

The event also had egg and spoon races, egg painting and of course an Easter egg hunt all organised by Milton Community Partnership.

Ryan Day, Community Worker, from Milton Community Partnership said: “Easter is a time for indulgence and children love it. But it’s important we are not being wasteful and this is a great way of getting creative with packaging. It has been a fabulous event, thank you to everyone who helped organise the day.”

Over 80 million Easter eggs are sold in the UK each year, all with their own personal cardboard box and plastic packaging, potentially producing thousands of tonnes of waste. Of course, the cardboard, plastic and foil can all be placed in the pink recycling sacks.
