Children’s Book Festival returns for seventh year

Monday 26th September 2016

The ever popular Children’s Book Festival is back at The Forum this year with a number of authors providing fun and interactive workshops for children aged 4 – 11 years old.

The festival, held over the October half term (October 20th – 29th), aims to encourage children to read and develop their imagination and creativity, with the option to purchase a signed book to inspire further reading.

Authors Ann Jungman, writer of more than 100 children’s books, award-winning Roy Apps and picture book author Hollie Hughes will all be holding sessions at The Forum in Elmer Square, as part of the event.

A special Halloween event is also included in the festival on Saturday 29th October requesting attendees to come in fancy dress for Halloween stories and spooky face painting.

Tickets for these public events are £3 for children with accompanying adults attending for free. Booking is now open at www.southendlam.eventbrite.com or you can call 01702 212573 and leave a message.

Schools in the area have also booked to attend a special event with author Peter Bunzl for an introduction to Cogheart, a steampunk inspired novel with airships, murder and mystery!

Ann Holland Executive Councillor for Culture, Tourism and the Economy said: “This is a wonderful festival for children to find out more about the authors and how they create these exciting places and adventures.

“Reading is an important part of everyday life but by expanding the imaginativeness and inventiveness of children today we embolden the authors and writers of tomorrow.

“I hope this year will be just as successful as the previous six years and that the children and parents alike enjoy these charming sessions.”
