Council urging residents to give their views on The Bell junction
Residents, businesses and motorists have just five weeks to have their say on The Bell junction improvements.
The council released the three highways options on 16 July and residents, businesses and road users have been able to give their views on each option.
Over 160 people attended two public consultations held in July, at Prince Avenue Academy (Tuesday 17 July) and at Earls Hall Primary School (Wednesday 18 July), with a further 95 comments left on the Stickyworld consultation online.
Cllr Andrew Moring, cabinet member for infrastructure, said: “With the consultation well underway, I would like to urge anyone who uses this junction regularly to have their say. We really do value every comment which can help us deliver a project the whole town can get behind.
“We have received a great deal of comments on social media posts about the junction so we know that local people are interested. However, as these are not officially recorded, I’d urge all those with bright ideas for the junction, to leave these comments through the online questionnaire.
“I would also like to thank both Earls Hall Primary School and Prince Avenue Academy for allowing us to host the public consultations at their schools.”
To fill out a questionnaire online, or to access the Stickyworld consultation, please visit www.bettersouthend.co.uk
Hard copies of the questionnaire are available upon request at the Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, SS2 6ER
A127 corridor improvements
The A127 has undergone a number of improvements at strategic junctions starting with Progress Road and Cuckoo Corner in 2010/11, Tesco Roundabout in 2014/15, with Kent Elms nearing completion and The Bell to be complete prior to 2020/21. Those schemes that have been completed to date have improved the performance at each of the junctions and have contributed to an improved A127 corridor. The Bell scheme will also manage traffic better and contribute to improved air quality.
