Councillors Reject Plans for the Grand

July 5, 2017 by Leigh-on-Sea.com

The multi million pound plan to revamp the Grand hotel on Leigh Broadway has been thrown out by the Southend Council planning committee.

This news comes after a year-long battle between developer Mick Norcross, of Towie fame, and Southend Council, who could not seem to come to an agreement on the renovation of the property.

Norcross's plan was to convert the building into 19 flats with a basement wine bar and health club, ground floor restaurants and a penthouse apartment topping a rear extension to the building.

However, Southend Council deemed the penthouse flat topping the building “not considered to be acceptable in terms of their visual impact”.

The vote was split 10 in favour of refusal, 3 members against refusal.
