Digital arts workshops in Southend
Focal Point Gallery – supported by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council – is hosting a great value four-day video and photography course from Tuesday 14 August – Friday 17 August.
DigiFest is an event which hosts a number of courses that allow attendees to work with artist professionals to develop and learn new skills in digital arts, including video and photography.
The first three days – Tuesday 14 August to Thursday 16 August – will be dedicated to learning video-making and editing skills, and the final day – Friday 17 August – will focus on street photography. The course will be led by artist professionals and is available to all levels and ages from 14 plus at a low cost.
Students from the course will have the opportunity of having their work shown publicly, on Big Screen Southend at The Forum, Elmer Square, to celebrate their creativity and build confidence for future projects..
On Saturday 18 August there is a free Family Arts Day, which is open to all ages and will offer attendees the chance to gain skills and work collaboratively as a family. Activities will be hosted by Artists Lu Williams and Sophia Simensky, who will guide attendees through different digital methods in Focal Point Gallery’s learning space.
Cllr Lesley Salter, cabinet member for healthy communities and wellbeing, said: “Over the past few years, Southend has cemented its place as the cultural hotspot for the South East. Focal Point Gallery works closely with a wide variety of artists who all offer different artistic ideas, allowing local artists to become more openly creative in their own works.
“DigiFest will bring local and budding artists together to share ideas on video and photography, and will enable attendees to develop their own artistic style so that they themselves can produce works of art that we as a town can be proud of. I urge anyone with an interest in photography and videography to register to take part in this fantastic event.”
Tickets for the Tuesday to Friday workshops are £40 - £30 for concessions – for all four days. Booking must be done prior to the events, and can be done so by visiting http://www.focalpoint.org.uk/events/ with more information on the events also available on this website. Family Arts Day on Saturday is free and hourly sessions can be booked at Focal Point Gallery reception on the day from 10.00am.
