Donate a tree for the ones you love

June 10, 2020

Would you like to give a very special gift to someone special and help the environment at the same time?

The council is planting many trees each year to enhance tree coverage across the borough, with a lot of trees donated by residents. Sadly, some must be removed for various reasons, but the council is committed to improving and creating a green environment.

With this in mind, residents are reminded that anyone looking for a different and special gift might like to consider donating a tree in Southend-on-Sea.

The trees are semi-mature and specially chosen to suit their surroundings and are then maintained by the council. Trees can be planted at various locations around the town, in parks and along the highway. The cost of a tree is £163.20, and they are supplied and planted by the council. A commemorative plaque can be included with parks’ trees for an additional cost of £137.70.

The council will also be bringing forward new offers within the donated tree scheme to give a broader range of options and prices, so more people can get involved in the scheme.

Applications must be submitted before 1 October in order for the tree to be planted in the planting season from January to March the following year.

Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment and planning, said: “We all know how difficult it can be to find the perfect gift for a special person. So the donate a tree scheme offers the chance to give a lasting gift to someone you love, and with Father’s Day, on 21 June, why not get in touch and give a gift of true beauty for all to enjoy.

“There are locations across the borough available, so if there is a specific area that has a special meaning to you, please let us know.”
