There's something for everyone at this year's Essex Book Festival. Starting today at various locations throughout the county there's a jam-packed programme of events.

A few of the highlights are:

For children you'll find Anthony Horowitz talking about the inspirations behind his amongst others, Alex Rider series, and Laura Dockrill reading her Darcey Burdock stories, Clara Vulliamy, and Elen Caldecott.

There's plenty about nature too with Richard Mabey giving the annual Burrows Lecture, and The Inspiration of Nature with Ross Gardner, Ted Benton and Andrew Fallon.

Big names include Sandi Toksvig, Gavin Esler, and Martina Cole on a panel debating the future of Essex.

There's plenty for music lovers too with Daryl Easlea hosting a panel (including the legendary Barney Hoskyns) discussing the ups and downs of music writing, and Pauline Black of the Selector reading from her 2-Tone Memoir.

And not forgetting the Orange Prize for Fiction 2012 shortlisted Georgina Harding, who will be reading from her intimate and devasting portrait of Romania during and after the Second World War.

And there's workshops too. Children's Book illustrating; Writing the Self; and Writing Short Stories.
