Southend-on-Sea City Council is proud to announce the Family Centres have been awarded the Baby Friendly Initiative Level 3 accreditation by UNICEF UK.

The Baby Friendly Initiative, is a global program by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, which aims to promote and support breastfeeding and infant feeding and improve standards of care for all mothers and babies.

This marks the first time the family centres have achieved this respected recognition, highlighting their commitment to providing exceptional support and care for mothers and babies.

The report stated that the service ‘has met all of the criteria relating to Baby Friendly accreditation and the staff are commended for the efforts made. It was clear to the assessment team that information and support for pregnant women and new mothers is of a very high standard.’
