Four bands we can't wait to see at the Maritime Festival!

August 14, 2016 by Liam Jefferies

Sunday 21st August, if you haven’t already marked the date, make a note as it’s sure to be a a good one!

The Old Town of Leigh will be hosting a “celebration of Estuary life”, with maritime themed fun from 11am.

There’s food, kid’s activities, and even a Pier race courtesy of the Lower Thames Rowing Club, but what we’re most excited about is the massive array of awesome live & local music. So excited in fact that we had to compile a list of who we’re most looking forward to:

First up we have The Avenue, serving up dreamy acoustic folk-pop by the barrel load. Their EP, Between Two Stones, is inspired by stories of swimming in the Estuary and the Thames.

Next up we’ve got Leigh-on-Sea legends the Dusty Peddlers, if you haven’t yet had a chance to catch their fantastic live performances, this is one that’s certainly not to be missed.

Bringing the reggae vibes to the Maritime festival, Slim Pickings are sure to have you skanking in the sunshine.

Lastly we have the little band with the big sound, Big Yellow Suitcase always bring the house down, and are seasoned veterans of the Estuary festival circuit. Here they are putting their own inimitable spin on Toots & the Maytals’ classic 54-46 Was My Number:

So now you’ve had a taste of what’s in store, get yourself down to Old Leigh on Sunday the 21st. There’s also a (non-mandatory) nautical themed dress code, so break out your Breton stripes.
