Friends of Leigh Library Gardens win Good For Leigh award
The Friends of Leigh Library Gardens have received notification that they are a winner of a Leigh Town Council 2019/20 Good for Leigh award.
The volunteer group Friends of Leigh Library Gardens (FOLLG) has been in existence for almost two years and in that time has gathered a dedicated band of volunteer gardeners who work in the Gardens in regular work sessions with staff from the Southend Parks Department. The group has been careful to consult with the people of Leigh to ensure that developments and work in the Gardens are good for the community. The group is inclusive and no experience is necessary to join. Equipment is supplied and all work is coordinated.
Russell Hallmark is the Chair of the charity and said ‘The Friends are delighted to have been recognised as ‘Good for Leigh’. It is good to know that what we are doing is appreciated. We are grateful for all the support Leigh Town Council has given us as we have become established. We look forward to working with our friends at the Parks Department as soon as we can to make the Library Gardens an even more wonderful place for everyone to enjoy.’
Good for Leigh is an initiative set up by Leigh-on-Sea Town Council to help promote all of the great things the town has to offer, from the businesses, organisations and groups to the individuals. These exceptional individuals and groups are nominated by members of the Council, to thank them for their outstanding contributions to the community of Leigh-on- Sea.
The work of FOLLG is temporarily suspended due to the current restrictions on movement and social gathering. When work parties resume, there will be much to do and all volunteers will be most welcome to work in the Gardens or to help in other ways such as securing sponsorship and fundraising.
Follow the Friends of Leigh Library Gardens on facebook @friendsofleighlibrarygdns to keep updated on when work parties will recommence and to discover what other projects are planned for the gardens.
