General Election 4th July 2024

The next general election is taking place on the 4th July 2024. If you have not already registered to vote you have until the 18th June to register with postal–vote applications closing on the 19th June.

The general election is held to elect MP’s into the House of Commons. There are 650 constituencies with each one electing an MP to represent local people. Candidates from the major parties plus some independent parties will stand and we detail below those candidates standing in the Southend-on-sea and Leigh-on-sea constituencies.

Since May 2023, voters have to show a valid form of photo ID at polling stations to vote in person. You do not need to show your polling card. You can use out-of-date photo ID as long as you look the same.

Older or Disabled Person's bus passes

Oyster 60+ cards

Blue Badge

PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme)

If you do not have one of the listed forms of Photo ID you will be able to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate.
