>Southend residents are invited to sign up for a county-wide chance to pay less for their gas and electricity.

>The Essex Energy Switch is an Essex County Council scheme in partnership with other authorities such as Southend-on-Sea Borough Council to help residents get better energy deals.

>This could help 1.4 million households throughout Essex - as well as small and medium-sized companies - save up to £133 per year.

>The Essex Energy Switch brings together people who want to switch providers into one ‘auction’. Energy providers then bid for their business by offering the best available prices.

>This scheme is being delivered by iChoosr, an independent provider - which specialises in collective energy switching - through their National Big Community Switch Scheme. The more people who join the collective scheme, the better deal everybody gets.

>Residents can register for the Essex Energy Switch up until Monday 17th February and businesses currently on a domestic tariff are also eligible to sign up.

>It is completely free to register and there is no obligation to switch

>On 18th February iChoosr will run an auction asking energy suppliers to bid for the collective business of everyone who signs up. The supplier offering the lowest price wins!

>After 18th February iChoosr will contact everyone who has signed up individually with an offer of an energy tariff based on their usage.

>This will outline how much you will save by switching to the winning energy provider.

>Residents can then choose whether or not to sign up to the new supplier. There is absolutely no obligation to switch, and you have a few weeks to decide. If you do decide to accept the offer you will then be contacted by the new supplier to arrange switching.

>For further information and to register, please contact iChoosr on 0800 048 8285 or visit: www.essex.gov.uk/energyswitch

>The details you will need to give when registering are:

>1. Name, address and contact details.

>2. The name of your current energy supplier(s) and current tariff plan(s).

>3. Either your current energy consumption in kWh or your current spend (see a recent bill or annual statement).

>Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Tony Cox: “This is an excellent chance for our residents to save money on their energy bills, by joining together with people throughout the county.

>“We are very pleased to work with Essex County Council and the other authorities involved, to help promote this most helpful scheme, and hope as many people as possible will take advantage of it.”
