Gold Standard Floristry

August 13, 2012

The dust settles on the Olympics. The stories have been told on the track, field and everything else in between, but some stories are a lot closer to home. We caught up with Georgina Millard, a local independent florist that created the victory bouquets for the athletes.

‘I've been a student at Writtle for the past two years studying my Diploma in Floristry. Writtle was one of the three colleges chosen to make the victory bouquets, I immediately volunteered myself to be involved, it's so exciting to be able to be a part of the Olympics.’

‘All the bouquets are made up a day in advance and are transported up to London to be given out the following day. We don't know which events our flowers are heading for specifically, but the Hadleigh Farm mountain biking was one of the events that was giving out medals the following day.’

‘The flowers we used were four different Roses, Yellow (Illios), Orange (Marie Claire), Green (Wimbledon), Pink (Aqua). The quadrants were separated by English lavender, Rosemary, Apple mint and Wheat.’

‘All the materials were British grown and the bouquets were designed by Susan Lapworth who is the Creative Director at Jane Packer. The bouquets are designed to reflect the energy and vibrancy of the games and the four quadrants mirror the 2012 logo. ‘
