Half Term Bikeability Courses
Wednesday 11th January 2017
Cycle Southend is offering four courses this half term (13th – 17th February) for cyclists of all ages at Belfairs Academy, Leigh on Sea.
Level 1 Bikeability is for those that can already ride a bike but want to learn more skills. This course gives you all the basics needed to be safe, as well as how to check that your bike is in good working order. During your session you will get the chance to practice these skills with fun challenges and games. If you haven’t got a bike you can hire one from Cycle Southend. This course is suitable for 7 – 10 year olds and takes place on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th February 2017 from 1-3pm. Both days must be attended to complete the course.
Bikeability Fix is a fun and hands on session that will teach you how to perform basic bike maintenance ensuring your bike is always in good working order including fixing a puncture. Suitable for 10 – 14 year olds this course takes place on Tuesday 14th February 2017 from 1-3pm. This session is taught in small groups with all equipment supplied at a cost of £10 per person.
Learn to ride sessions will be held on Wednesday 15th February and are suitable for all ages. As a participant you will receive a 45 minute 1:1 session with one of the accredited instructors. Don’t worry if you don’t own a bike as you can borrow one as part of the session.
Adult Bikeability are 1:1 sessions that can be tailored to your own needs. Whether you want to learn how to ride a bike, need more confidence or want to learn the skills needed to be able to ride confidently and safely on the road, this course can help. These sessions can be booked on a day and time to suit you throughout the year.
Cllr Tony Cox, Executive Councillor for Transport, Waste & Cleansing said: “These courses are a great opportunity for cyclists to learn and improve their skills enabling them to remain safe whilst cycling in Southend-on-Sea.”
“We are therefore delighted to deliver these courses once again to our young residents and we also hope that some of our older residents might take up the challenge of getting back into cycling with adult courses also available.”
Places are limited on each course so booking is essential. To book or for further information, please visit the Cycle Southend website www.cyclesouthend.co.uk or phone 01702 215595.
