Havens Hospices welcomes back Tree-Recycling collection service to support their care
After last year’s success, Havens Hospices is welcoming back its Christmas Tree collection service, covering more households in the New Year to help raise vital funds for local hospice care.
The collection service, supported by the charity Just Helping, will pick up real Christmas trees from households in return for a donation of a minimum of £5 on 7th and 8th January 2022. This year’s scheme will collect from the postcodes SS5, SS6, SS7 and SS9 only.
The proceeds raised will help to fund the charity’s specialist palliative nursing and supportive care for children and adults living with complex or incurable conditions. It won’t be just Havens Hospices benefiting from the service as up to 10% of the funds are also being donated to other local charities. All the trees collected will be turned into wood chippings by Essex Tree Services for free to be reused elsewhere.
Jane Hopkins, Voluntary Income Area Team Leader from Havens Hospices said: “We were so thrilled by how well received the collection service was last January with nearly 200 trees collected, raising nearly £2,500 for our hospice care. We hope to collect even more this time across two additional areas so we can raise money to provide even more care for more families in 2022.
“So, instead of giving yourself the gruelling task of trying to squeeze your Christmas tree in your car for a trip to the local tip, why not book a collection service with us whilst supporting your local hospice charity at the same time? We are so very grateful for the support of Just Helping, our sponsors Daws Heath Timber, Essex Tree Services and the other local businesses who have offered their time and vans to make collections possible.”
Havens Hospices is looking for more volunteers with vans that are kindly able to offer their time to assist with collecting trees. If you can help please contact Jane Hopkins at jhopkins@havenshospices.org.uk.
