Hunt for Dinosaur Eggs for charity this Easter
The whole family can enjoy hunting for dinosaurs this April and help raise money for a new adult’s hospice for South East Essex.
On Sunday 14th April, the gardens at Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley will host the charity’s Easter Egg Hunt with a twist. Instead of a traditional hunt, budding palaeontologists can follow a Dino Trail, hunting for dinosaur eggs and ‘fossils’ that will help them crack a code to claim a prize. There’ll also be go karts, a double decker play bus, face painting, a soft play area and toy sale, plus food and drink and much more.
The event is being organised by the charity’s friends’ group, Havens Hospices Helping Hands, who won the Fundraising East Anglia Volunteer of the Year award in 2018 for their hard work and dedication since forming in 2016.
When the group first started, they gave themselves a fundraising target of £30,000 for Havens Hospices, which cares for adults, children and young people with life-limiting illnesses across Essex. Just two years later, Helping Hands had exceeded that target by over £30,000.
The group have now set themselves an additional target to raise £57,000 by June 2020 to fund the Complementary Therapy room at the new Fair Havens Hospice, which is being built opposite Priory Park in Prittlewell.
April’s Dino Trail will take visitors through the Sensory Gardens at Little Havens - Essex’s only children’s hospice - as they explore and search for clues. The route is accessible to all, so the group are hoping that they will be joined by both the local community and families who use the hospice services; strengthening the links between Little Havens, The J’s and Fair Havens as the charity takes ‘the next step’ in modern hospice care.
Helping Hands Chairperson, Lorraine Jibb said, “We are very egg-cited to share with you our Dino Trail event over the Easter holiday and that we’ve been able to hold it at Little Havens. The gardens are the perfect setting for a fun-filled day packed with adventure for all the family! We hope to see lots of Dino-Hunters there!”
The cash-only event starts at 11am and runs until 3pm. Entry is £5 per person or families of four can purchase a Family Ticket for £15. The route is pushchair and wheelchair friendly, but not suitable for dogs. All funds raised will be going towards the Havens Hospices Helping Hands’ £57,000 fundraising target for new Fair Havens Hospice.
The new Fair Havens, which is being built by Barnes Construction, is expected to be completed in February 2020 and will cover the population of Southend, Castle Point and Rochford. It will bring together a range of specialist services to support people in making choices about their care from the day they receive their diagnosis, as they journey with their illness and as the end of their life approaches.
