In, out? Shake it all about.

In, out? Shake it all about.

This week sees us all having to make a momentous decision that could have ramifications for generations to come.

No, I am not talking about where to watch the next England game at the Euros, I mean the EU referendum is this week.

The polls seem to have the decision at neck and neck and the only thing that the so called experts can agree on is that the result is too close to call.

I have done a quick poll in the office which is far from conclusive and even that result was a draw.

I have watched a number of the debates on T.V and have tried to read everything I can to base my decision on fact and I am sorry to say that I am still sat on the fence.

In my humble opinion there seems to be some very good things about being in the EU that I would like to retain and then some really rubbish things that I would like to chuck out but it doesn’t seem to work like. It is a be all or end all type of decision.

I am ashamed to say that I will probably end up making up my mind on the day of the referendum when I have the pencil in my hand ready to make my X. No wonder the result is so difficult to predict!

The argument to remain seems to be that we are better together but I would like to think that the UK could stand on its own two feet and do OK without the EU telling us what we have to do.

However the argument to leave is that is that the EU costs us so much money but all of the economists predict that we would be worse off out of the EU. So who knows?

One thing I am sure of is that I am not sure who to believe. I know that statistics can be manipulated to say whatever you want them to say but everything that one side says is immediately shot down and the exact opposite opinion is put forward by the others. This makes it really difficult to know which way to vote and who to believe.

You can’t even just vote with your traditional political party as there are deep divisions within all of the parties. Strange alliances have appeared with Labour MP’s & Boris Johnson campaigning to leave alongside Nigel Farage and Labours leader and new Labour London Mayor working alongside the Prime Minister to encourage us to stay.

One thing I do know is that the housing market is already reacting. As always the market doesn’t like uncertainty. In the immediate short term I don’t think that a decision to stay or even leave the EU will make that much difference to the local housing market but as ever the uncertainty makes people a little uneasy about making an offer on that new home.

We have had a crazy start to the year and then in March & April the market slowed as new stamp duty changes were brought in. The market soon recovered and we were up and running again and this last couple of weeks seem to have slowed again. I think this is down to the EU referendum and shouldn’t have a long term affect on the market but it will probably be a little quieter for a couple of weeks.

It could however be nothing to do with the referendum and be down to the fact that England are doing so well at the football and everybody wants to watch that rather than buy houses?
