Indirock Youth Zone, supporting under 18 climbers on their climbing journeys
Bouldering has so many benefits. It’s fun, it’s social, and it’s great for your physical and mental wellbeing. And it’s for all ages!
Indirock’s Youth Zone is aimed at empowering under 18 climbers on their own climbing journeys, and they have options for even the smallest customers.
Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers
Soft Play Sessions run every Tuesday and Friday, 10 am - 4 pm. They are bookable sessions for 1 - 4 year olds and are a great way to explore climbing in a low pressure environment. If you’re a parent, carer or childminder it’s a lovely way to spend some time connecting in a bright and vibrant space.
Under 6’s
recently started allowing 4 and 5 year olds to climb, with some very important safety measures. They need to be supervised on a 1:1 basis, the adult supervising cannot climb and climbing is limited within two climbing zones only – the Canyon and Travese Wall. 7 new climbs using ‘Carrot’ holds (green and orange) will be introduced in the main climbing area shortly, these will be the routes suitable for this age. There are a few more measures in place which can be found here.
If they take to climbing, they can sign up for NICAS Wild Climbers which teaches climbing skills for ages 3-5, preparing young climbers for Foundation Level. Indirock’s Wild Climbers programme is fun and game orientated, developing awareness of climbing movements, improving confidence and creating a grassroots pathway into additional climbing activities.
Age 6 plus
Once climbers reach the age of 6 they can be supervised by 1 adult (who can climb with them), and Indirock have several courses to help support their progress. One Adult can supervise up to two children.
The Child Coaching Membership wraps up instructed sessions (NICAS and Youth Squad) with the unlimited climbing memberships so they can climb to their hearts content! Or they have a clmbing only membership for those who don’t want the coaching!
14 - 17 Year Olds
If you’re aged 14-17, you’ve been climbing with Indirock for a while and you believe you’re mature and safe enough to climb without an adult supervisor, you can apply to get signed off for independent climbing.
Plus, there are courses and workshops available for adults too. All information can be found on Indirock’s website
Indirock is located on the First Floor of the Victoria Centre, Southend on Sea.
