Last chance to apply for £150 council tax rebate

August 23, 2022

Southend-on-Sea residents have until Friday 30 September to apply for a £150 council tax energy rebate to help with the cost of rising energy bills.

The Government launched the £150 council tax rebate in April 2022 for residents living in council tax bands A to D. The £150 does not need to be repaid by residents.

Since the launch, the council has paid out the grants to 66,369 households within the City, meaning £9.9m has been paid out since the rebate was launched this year, which equates to just over 97% of the £10,260,600 the council was allocated from central Government. Although the council has paid out to all eligible households, the council is urging anyone that has not received their grant to contact the team to request payment.

Cllr Stephen George, leader of the council, said: “With the cost of living soaring, this £150 council tax rebate could provide important financial support. To date, we have paid out the grants to every eligible household based on the details we have on record. However, we know there could be some incorrect details, for example properties recorded as empty when they have new residents moved in.

“Anyone that hasn’t received their rebate yet has until Friday 30 September to get in touch with our officers to make sure the payments are made.”

Anyone that has not yet received their rebate should contact the council tax team on 01702 215001. More information can be found online at www.southend.gov.uk/energyrebate
