Legal Eagle Q & A - Pre-nuptial agreements in the UK

Question: I’ve heard that pre-nuptial agreements are only valid in the US and in the UK they are worthless. Is that true?

Answer: Although pre-nuptial agreements are not strictly binding it is definitely worth having a well-drafted pre-nuptial agreement if you both wish to protect your assets in the event of a divorce. Whereas this may not seem very romantic they can save a lot of money in the long run and the courts take a lot of notice of them. Don’t be tempted to prepare an online one though; get proper advice.
