Leigh Road Baptist Church's Christmas Eco Fayre Raises £2,600 for Community Initiatives

November 21, 2024

Leigh-on-Sea, Essex – Leigh Road Baptist Church (LRBC) hosted its annual Christmas Eco Fayre on Saturday, a joyful event that combined festive cheer with a focus on sustainability. The Fayre attracted hundreds of visitors, showcasing the creativity and generosity of the local community while raising an impressive £2,600.

Of the funds raised, 90% will support LRBC’s work in the local community, which include initiatives for children, families, and the vulnerable amongst other things. The remaining 10% will be donated to the Southend CAP Debt Advice Centre, which provides vital support to individuals struggling with financial challenges.

The Eco Fayre featured over 40 stalls run by small businesses and artisans, offering eco-friendly gifts, upcycled decorations, and sustainable Christmas ideas. Visitors enjoyed interactive activities, festive treats, and activities for all ages. Children were delighted by craft stations, while adults discovered unique, planet-friendly ways to celebrate the season.

LRBC were thrilled by the response. Julie Eady, church member and organiser, commented:

“We are humbled and overjoyed by the community’s support. To all the stallholders, small businesses, volunteers, and attendees—thank you for making this such a special day. Your contributions help us care for our community and steward God’s creation responsibly. Together, we’ve proven that Christmas can be both joyful and sustainable.”

The Eco Fayre is part of LRBC’s broader commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship, reflecting the growing importance of sustainability and shopping locally.
