Libraries closed but Click and Collect and home delivery set to continue
Following the Government announcement of a period of lockdown (commencing today, Thursday 5 November), the council is pleased to announce that residents will still have access to the Click and Collect and home library delivery services.
The experienced library teams will select up to seven items from customer’s specifications and arrange a convenient time for their Click and Collect service. This can be accessed online at https://southend.spydus.co.uk or by calling 01702 215011.
Please note that Southchurch Library remains closed due to essential works and will not be open for Click and Collect until Monday 16 November.
The home library service will also continue to provide doorstep deliveries to those who cannot get to a library, where the library team will select books based off your own likes, including your favourite genre, author or even time period. Please contact librarydevelopment@southend.gov.uk for more details.
Additionally, The Forum will offer computer access for essential use between 10am - 4pm, Monday - Saturday, in one-hour self-service slots. These slots are specifically for people who are unable to access the internet at home and need to use a computer for essential services, and must also be pre-booked. To book your session in advance, please call 01702 534117.
During this time, Southend Libraries members may continue to enjoy free, uninterrupted access to a wealth of online library resources. To access the online resources, please visit: www.southend.gov.uk/library-services/online-reference-library
A number of fun activities will also be shared via the Library Facebook page. Please visit www.facebook.com/southendlibrary throughout the month for more information.
Cllr Kevin Robinson, cabinet member for business, culture and tourism, said: “I am delighted that we are able to continue to provide various aspects of the library service throughout the next four weeks. Spending time at home for a prolonged period can seem daunting, and having a selection of fantastic books for Click and Collect or home delivery is a great way to take your mind off of everything that is going on at the moment.
“We have an experienced team of librarians who can help select a book or audiobook that suits your needs, so please do get in touch, they are always more than happy to help.
“I hope our residents will make use of this service and I hope it provides a welcome morale boost in these challenging times.”
