Local Charity’s Free Family Festival returns this September

August 18, 2019 by Leigh-on-sea.com

A charity is holding its second annual festival to celebrate the future of local hospice care on Sunday 15th September.

Havens Hospices started building a new Fair Havens Hospice in Prittlewell last October and has been overwhelmed by the support that it has received from the local community who have helped to raise over £2million for the new hospice in just 18 months.

It is bringing the Family Fun Festival back for a second year to say thank you for this continued support which is helping to turn its vision of modern hospice care for Southend into a reality. The event, which is free to attend, is being held in Priory Park opposite the site for the new Fair Havens. It starts at 11am and there will be plenty to see and do throughout the day.

There will be live entertainment from local choirs, dance troupes and musicians including 4 and 20 Blackbirds, Don’t Shout Out and Funky Voices.

The charity is teaming up with plenty of local companies who will be holding a variety of activities at ‘pocket money prices’ from crafts with Create98 and Bumblebee Events to go-karting with Karty Party and Shetland Pony Rides with The Ramblers Riding Club. There will also be fairground rides, refreshments and much more.

Parking at Priory Park is limited, but Southend United Football Club is opening their car park for those who are attending the event.

Emily Tucker, Community Engagement Officer for Havens Hospices said, "We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by our local community since we started fundraising for the new Fair Havens Hospice in 2018 and we are really looking forward to celebrating being ever closer to taking ‘the next step’ in local hospice care with them.

“Everyone is invited to join us. There will be a chance to find out more about new Fair Havens and the charity, but the main aim of the Family Fun Festival is to have fun and to thank the local community for their fantastic support which will help us continue ‘Making every day count’ for those we care for in the region.”

Havens Hospices has just £350,000 left to raise to complete the build of the new Fair Havens. It has recently launched the ‘Power of a Pound’ campaign because if every person in Southend, Castle Point and Rochford gave just £1 it would reach this fundraising target.
