Much loved Leigh-on-sea pub the Sarah Moore closing

October 31, 2024

A firm favourite with local sports fans, the Sarah Moor pub in Elm Road will be closing its doors on 4th January 2025. It seems the lease of the building is coming to an end and will not be renewed. The whole building has been up for sale for some time and is now earmarked for redevelopment to residential.

On the last evening there will be a “Sarah no more party” with the amazing Pete Lacey coming with Ska N Mash to enjoy our last evening.

The pub posted on Facebook this week “we would like to thank all our staff and the amazing customers over the years that we have been here, we appreciate everyone and have had some really good laughs. We plan to see out the next 9 weeks with a bang and have plenty of events arranged. But please all pop down on the 4th of January for the last night of trade we want the pub to end in style. Thank you everyone from Charley, will and our amazing team and of course Sarah Moore herself!

As many locals will know the pub was named after the infamous Leigh-on-sea Witch Sarah Moore who died in 1867 and is buried in St Clements churchyard. The urban legend states that Sarah sold good luck charms to the sailors on the wharf in Old Leigh but when one captain forbid his sailors from buying charms from her she conjured a storm which sunk their boat.
