New interiors company launches in Leigh-on-Sea
A primary school playground seems an unlikely location for the inspiration behind a new business, but it’s exactly where new interiors company Tin Design began.
It’s one of those great Leigh-on-Sea stories, where two creative women started up a conversation while dropping their children off at Leigh North Street School and discovered a mutual love of design and styling.
Tara Cremer, who studied Interior Design at Writtle College, had previously run REBELREBEL, an interior design company who shook up the interiors of local hairdressers, cafes, and private homes in Leigh. But in December 2014, Tara was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to put her freelance career on hold, whilst also bringing up her three children.
Trudy Cross, the other half of what is now Tin Design, was incredibly supportive of Tara following her diagnosis and subsequent treatment, and as Tara puts it, “was so helpful to me and my little brood.”
Thankfully in remission, Tara was still recovering from gruelling treatment in late 2015, and was, frankly, bored not being able to work. The two women met in Ugo’s for a glass of wine, where Trudy mentioned she was interested in setting up an online homewares store. Tara expressed her own interest in starting up a business again, and Tin Design was born.
Tin Design offers a whole gamut of design inspiration, from eclectic wallpapers to stylish votives and vases that would make brilliant gifts (or treats for yourself!). Trudy and Tara are different in style - elegant and grungy respectively, but the combination works. Their mantra when choosing products is “Would we have it in our home?” Trudy’s eye for property, design and styling complements Tara’s love for giving classic homes an edge.
Tin Design feel lucky to live in such a creative and artistic town, and fully support local artisans on their website, giving them a platform alongside more established designers.
