REVIEW: THE CRICKETERS, CLAVERING

Sometimes it's nice to get away, especially in January when it feels like the year is a long road stretched out in front of you.
I had heard jolly good things about the Cricketers in Clavering, an unassuming inn in the country where none other than Jamie bloody Oliver learned to cook. It's owned by his parents, Trevor and Sally, who run the inn day to day, providing a bar, restaurant and B&B in an otherwise sleepy village.
Clavering is kind of near Saffron Walden, kind of near Stansted, so it's not a million miles from Leigh-on-Sea - but far enough to feel like you're getting away from it all.

THE HISTORY BOYS AT THE PALACE THEATRE - REVIEW

This week, there is a production of the Alan Bennett’s History Boys play presented by a brand-new touring company which will guarantee to please. It transports the audience back to the 1980’s and is an allegory on Thatcherite values, as culture and knowledge for its own sake give way to the spin and results driven society we experience today.
It is the story of 8 bright, funny history students who stay on at school after their A’ Levels in the pursuit of an undergraduate place at either Oxford or Cambridge.
