Olympic Torch passes through Leigh

On Friday 6th July the Olympic Torch came to Leigh. Despite the heavy rain many turned out to watch the procession pass along the London Road. There was a great atmosphere helped by many of the motocycle Police who entered into the spirit of the event by stopping and chatting to the crowds with some of them giving the children a friendly tap on their hands as they slowly passed through.

There were a number of accompanying open top buses/floats bearing the logos of the main Olympic sponsors.
Most of the local schools turned out in force and all who made the effort to turn up will have gone away with happy memories of a great community event.
