ParkLives Southend returns for more free fitness fun
Southend children, young people and families can look forward to a summer of free weekly outdoor activities again, thanks to the return of the Council’s popular ParkLives Southend programme.
Led by the Council’s Sport and Leisure Team, experienced instructors from community sport and physical activity organisations will deliver 20 free activities in Chalkwell Park over the Summer.
For the fourth year running, these free, fun, and informal activities will include Scooter sessions, Street Basketball, Tennis, Tri-Golf and Street Golf, Dodgeball, Rounders, and Kickboxing and Boxing.
The four-week programme starts on Monday 29 July with a Boxing and Kickboxing Fitness session from 11:15am until 12:15pm. Families and young people from across the town are invited to come along with their friends, join in the fun and sign up for vibrant and varied sporting activities over the Summer, which are totally free and right on their doorstep.
Cllr Kevin Robinson, cabinet member for business, culture and tourism, said: “The Council is extremely proud to be able to offer the free ParkLives Southend programme for the fourth year running.
“ParkLives Southend is an extremely popular community activity programme which was shortlisted for a national award last year for the impact it has had in bringing together families, creating friendships and developing skills.
“This year, we’re offering a few different activities such as Family Tennis, Tri-Golf and Street Golf, as well as Kickboxing and Boxing Fitness sessions which I’m sure will be incredibly popular with children and young people. It’s been brilliant to see ParkLives Southend go from strength to strength.
“This really is testament to the fantastic team of local session leaders and volunteers helping people to try new activities, make new friends and discover the wonderful green spaces they have on their doorstep. Thanks must also go to all the local partners who are supporting this year’s programme.
“These free sessions really help tackle some of the barriers which people say can discourage them from taking part in physical activity such as cost, distance, lack of suitable and engaging provision and lack of others to join in with. We hope as many children, young people and families as possible take advantage of this fantastic free programme.”
