Council prepares for planned strike action tomorrow! - Official Southend Borough Council Press Release

Industrial Action affecting local Government will take place on Tuesday 14th October 2014.

Unions representing local government workers – GMB and UNISON will strike again as part of their dispute over the 2014 pay negotiations for staff in local authorities and non-teaching staff in schools.

Cllr Ron Woodley, Leader of the Council, says:

“Due to the industrial action planned by public sector unions for Tuesday 14th October it is possible that some council services will be affected.

“We will be doing our best to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum to front-line services, and at this time it is not anticipated that the National Union of Teachers (NUT) will be involved in the strike. However, we have asked all our schools to plan ahead in case the NUT decide to take part.

“In most cases we will not know with certainty what services will be affected until the day of the strike but we will be keeping members of the public informed ahead of the industrial action and on the day itself via the council’s website and social media.

” Refuse and recycling collections and street cleansing services will not be affected.

Information will be available as we get it on www.southend.gov.uk, on Twitter @SouthendBC and at www.facebook.com/SouthendBCOfficial
