Record number of youngsters attend apprenticeship event

June 11, 2019 by Leigh-on-sea.com

A record-number of students attended an apprenticeship event to find out about what opportunities Southend-on-Sea has to offer.

More than 150 young people aged 15 to 19 visited the Apprenticeship Information Event and speak to different organisations all offering different level apprenticeships during summer and autumn 2019.

They were able to speak with 25 businesses and training providers within the town, including Morgan Sindall, Ipeco Holdings Ltd, Natwest, NHS, East of England Ambulance Service, Herve Engineering, and SECTA Training Academy.

Cllr Anne Jones, cabinet member for children and learning, said: We want younger generations to be active and involved with their town, so it’s really positive that so many young people attended this information event and are taking advantage of the opportunities open to them.

“There are many different chances for prosperity within education and employment and an apprenticeship is the perfect mesh of the two I would like to thank the organisations who took part and the Economic Development Team at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council for organising the event.”

Participants also had the opportunity to hear more about apprenticeship and its benefits at the event held at The Forum on Wednesday 22 May, from National Careers Services, The Hive Enterprise Centre, Palmers Solicitors and University of Essex.

Some comments from visitors to the event included “very eye opening!” and “I like the different range of things on offer”.

This event follows on from another successful apprenticeship event arranged by Connexions and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council in April, at the Tickfield Centre.
