The popular Shakedown motorcycle event is set to make a comeback this Easter bank holiday thanks to a £100,000 funding boost from Southend City Council. The extra funding was confirmed as part of the council's 2025/26 budget, ensuring the event can proceed after years of uncertainty caused by financial limitations, security concerns, and withdrawals by organizers. At a full council meeting on Thursday, February 20th, Council Leader Daniel Cowan officially announced the Shakedown's return. He said, “Shakedown will return and receive full support in Southend. We are committed to strengthening our tourism industry and the jobs that rely on it. By increasing the events budget, we’re boosting tourism and generating income for local businesses. Our goal is to make Southend a must-visit destination for its seven million annual visitors, encouraging them to return year after year.” The Shakedown event is set for Bank Holiday Monday, April 21st, and is expected to draw thousands of bikers and enthusiasts to the seafront. More information on how to participate will be announced soon.
