Skydive for Havens this May 2019

February 25, 2019 by Leigh-on-sea.com

An Essex Hospice group are looking for daredevils to take part in a skydive this May.

Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J’s Hospice, is holding a Skydive Weekend to raise funds to help them provide free, specialist care for as long as it’s needed, within the home, in the community and at their two hospices.

The Skydive Weekend on the 18th and 19th May, will give those taking part a chance to see the beautiful East Coast in a way they’ve never seen before as they take to the skies over Beccles in Suffolk

Long-term Havens supporter Chris Seymour, 35 from Leigh on Sea has bought two skydives for his parents, Lynn and David and is hoping that other people will be inspired to gift this unique experience.

Chris said, “I’m an adrenaline junkie, probably the only one in the family, and I think everyone needs to do a skydive at some point in their life. It’s an incredible, a huge rush and super peaceful once the parachute opens; I just didn’t want my parents to miss out on the experience! And when I found out that Havens Hospices were doing a weekend, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get them up in the air and give them a gift they’d never forget!

“My partner’s Mum worked for Fair Havens up to her death in 2003; so the charity has always had a special place in our hearts. They also offered support to us as a family when my daughter was younger as she was extremely ill, thankfully we didn’t need as much support as other families living with life-limiting illnesses and she is well now, but Little Havens offered use of their facilities and support services; so, they will always have our continuous support.

“I personally think that what they do at Little Havens and Havens Hospices as a whole is nothing short of incredible and I will always fundraise for them. Last September, myself and my Dad did the Little Havens to Amsterdam bike ride and I would definitely recommend joining Team Havens for their next ride to Bruges if you can – but like I said this year for our family is all about taking to the sky and I can’t wait to see Mum and Dad reach new heights!”

Emma Hamilton, Challenges Fundraiser for Havens Hospices, said “We love the idea of gifting a skydive to your nearest and dearest here at Havens Hospices, and are excited to be joined this year by David and Lynn. We must raise over £100,000 each week to be there for everyone who needs us, helping to control pain and medication, offering respite and caring for adults and children at the end of their lives.

“We can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters like Chris, David and Lynn by taking part in this unique experience and raising vital funds for us will be helping us continue to fulfil our promise of ‘Making every day count’ for every baby, child, young person, adult and their families.”
