Southend BID appoints new Chair

Mark Bartrip, franchisee of both McDonald’s premises on Southend High Street, has this week been appointed Chairof the Southend Business Improvement District (BID). Mark takes over from Dennis Baldry, the Centre Manager of the Victoria Shopping Centre, who will remain as a Director of the BID.

Mark has been involved with the Southend BID since its inception in 2012 and has led on several initiatives such as the implementation of the Street Ranger service, the Christmas and Fireworks events, Southend Business Against Crime meetings and more besides.

Commenting on the new appointment, Suzanne Gloyne, Southend BID Manager said: “Mark has been a Director throughout the life of the BID and is well placed to lead us into the challenges that we face going forward. His knowledge of the BID and town, business acumen and passion for Southend will be invaluable as the new Chair to help our businesses thrive once more after this incredibly difficult period. The team is looking forward to continue driving positive improvements in the high street and seafront and delivering on our business plan objectives.”

Zelda Bibby, Store Manager of Yours Clothing and Southend BID Committee Member said: “Dennis has led the BID through an extremely tough year and I’m pleased we will continue to have him on board as a Director. As the new Chair, Mark will continue the good work of the BID with his proactivity and evident determination to make Southend the best it can be.”

Chris Johnson, Committee Member of Southend BID and owner of énergie Fitness Southend says: “Dennis has done a great job at the helm of the BID, especially in these challenging times. I look forward to continue working as part of the BID committee and with Mark in his new role as Chair to plan for the future of our town.”

The Southend BID board and committee consists of representatives from the retail, hospitality, leisure, services, accommodation, fitness and education sectors alongside partners from the council and Essex Police.
