Join the Jam! Southend City Jam seeks volunteers
Southend City Jam, a celebration of street art coming to Southend-on-Sea in September is looking for energetic and outgoing volunteers to help the smooth running of the festival.
Created by Pryzm Arts working with Southend-On-Sea City Council, Southend Tourism Partnership and Southend BID, Southend City Jam will feature local, national, and internationally acclaimed artists creating large-scale artworks on buildings and walls around the City.
More artists will take to the High Street in a designated ‘Pop-up Park’ area where they will decorate three banks of temporary ‘walls’. Local street food stalls, picnic benches and fake grass will surround the walls to help create the illusion of a park. The seafront will play host to the festival with artists painting along from the pier entrance on Western Esplanade to Sands by The Sea.
The Southend City Jam team is looking for volunteers to steward the festival from Friday 2 – Sunday 4 September. There will be two shifts, 10am – 2pm and 2pm -6pm available. Volunteers will welcome visitors, support the artists, answer questions about the event and be an official presence around the festival area.
Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, culture and tourism said: “Southend City Jam is going to be a wonderful and creative festival and we’re keen to get the local community involved. We’re anticipating thousands of visitors to the City, and it would be amazing to have as many local volunteers as possible to help showcase our fantastic City, and help us host an event like other major cities across the country.
“Southend City Jam takes place on the same weekend as the Southend City Festival, meaning we will be welcoming thousands of visitors across the City, providing a huge boost for the local economy and highlighting our incredible cultural excellence.”
Jacqui Dallimore, chair of the Southend Tourism Partnership, said: “Southend City Jam is getting bigger and better. The pop-up park will be a great opportunity for visitors to soak up the atmosphere with a chance for people to chat with artists, who may even inspire their creative side. It’ll be fantastic to have residents as ambassadors for this festival and Southend City and bring this festival to life.”
Southend City Jam is sponsored by Southend BID with support from Pigs Bay Distillery, Mark 1 Hire, PGR Builders and Timber Merchants, Roslin Beach Hotel and Montana Cans.
More information and registering interest on volunteering can be found on the official Southend City Jam website: www.southendcityjam.co.uk
