July 25, 2018 by Southend Borough Council Press Release

Southend Museums are inviting children aged 7 – 11 to come down to Prittlewell Priory, for a morning of fun and free educational activities as part of their brand new Holiday Club on Thursday, 2 August.

The session will run from 10am to Midday and children can enjoy a packed event, discovering the history of Southend. During this taster session children attending can expect a tour of the historical Prittlewell Priory, “Story Telling with Objects” including mystery objects and the chance to handle ancient and historic objects from the Museum’s own collections.

Cllr Lesley Salter cabinet member for healthy communities and wellbeing said “This is a wonderful opportunity for children to have fun and experience the history of Southend-on-Sea up close.

“The Prittlewell Priory has a long, rich history, which will be brought to life by the Museum Curators for this wonderful taster session; I hope the children attending really enjoy discovering the history of Southend.”

Ellie Broad Assistant Curator of Archaeology at Southend Museums said “We are looking forward to welcoming children to the first of what we hope will be a successful Holiday Club.

“This will be a fun and educational session with enriching activities for 7-11 year-olds, all set in our beautiful Prittlewell Priory.”

The session, led by two of Southend Museums Curators and an Education Officer, promises to be a fun filled morning with a difference.

Parents and carers will be able to sign up for the first official session of The Holiday Club, set to take place during the October Half Term, where sessions will cost £5 per child.

Southend Museums asks that all children attending be accompanied by a parent or carer. For more information, please visit the Southend Museums website www.southendmuseums.co.uk
