Friday 15th May 2015
The new Mayor of Southend, Cllr Andrew Moring has been inaugurated as the 95th first citizen of the Borough, saying that he would love to visit every primary school in the Borough during his term.
The Mayor said in his acceptance speech yesterday (Thursday 14th May) that as a child he had learnt “anything is possible if you work hard for it” and said that he wanted to visit every primary school in Southend-on-Sea to spread that message.
The Worshipful The Mayor of Southend, Councillor Andrew Moring also said: “It is not only an absolute honour to be made the 95th Mayor of Southend, but also very moving too. For those that know me, I am not often lost for words, but I am very close today.
“I am very much looking forward to the responsibility of representing the Borough, meeting as many members of the local community as possible, attending a range of events and supporting my chosen charities. I will also support other local charities by attending their events and offer them the use of Porters, our Civic House, for fund raising activates.
“I want to work with local primary Schools and would love to open up the doors of Porters , our 15th century Civic House to groups of local schoolchildren to help them discover the rich history and heritage of Southend.
“I am also passionate about our business community. This is the powerhouse of our town, creating employment and income which provide our prosperity and growth. I hope that they will give me the opportunity to help promote their businesses through the Mayoralty and through events arranged jointly with the Mayor’s Charity Committee.”
The Mayor’s charities for the 2015/16 municipal year will be:
The Southend-on-Sea branch of the Samaritans
