The Bell Hotel to be renovated?

The owner of the Bell hotel site, developer Robin Levy, has submitted plans to Southend Council to change the historic Bell Hotel in Leigh Hill into a restaurant and flats with the addition of two blocks of flats in its grounds.

The blocks, one of which would be three storeys high and the other partly three and partly four storeys, would total 15 flats and the former hotel would contain five flats.

Although plans to restore and develop the site having been previously granted work has never started on the site as Mr Levy views the inclusion of social housing in the development as economically unviable.

Leigh town Council has voted to object to the plans.

We will keep you posted as to any further developments in this on-going matter.
