The Typical Leighite
So we’ve all heard the term right? The 'Leighite'...
... a person who only lives, socialises, shops and spends their days in Leigh whether it be frequenting the London Road, The Broadway or The Old Town?
Over the years, I've heard this term bantered around a lot but it never ceases to amaze me about how people interpret it in different ways. I never actually thought I was one.. until recently that is….
As I sipped cocktails in Henry Burgers on Saturday night (Porn Star Martini … if you haven’t tried it, you must) and chatted away with my friends, I realised that I was, without a doubt, a ‘Leighite'! I had already visited the good old Sarah Moore that evening (my haunt from dare I say it.. when I was 18 and sticky carpets was part of the allure) and after a few more cocktails (it would have been rude not too) and a great bit of grub at HB, the night ended with us singing our hearts out with live music at the ever popular Ten Green Bottles.
I had no intention of ever slipping out of the SS9 postcode that evening, nor do I on any other nights out generally (well unless a sunny day in Covent Garden calls) and why would I? Leigh is home after all and judge me or not, I feel most comfortable when I'm shopping, socialising and working in our lovely little town leigh. ‘Bore off’ I hear you non Leighites saying, but nobody every questioned SJP’s night after night adventures only in Manhattan or the fact that her ‘office’ was actually her bed in her apartment.
Don’t get me wrong, us Leighites do have passports, were well aware that there is life outside Leigh and we do venture outside the SS9 postcode from time to time… it’s just, we have everything we want, need and adore on our doorsteps so we rarely feel the need! Leigh has such a sense of community, a real family feel… it’s home.
So. if you’re wondering if you perhaps are a Leighite yourself or on the look out for who I'm referring too, then to me, this is who we are; We generally wear sunglasses night and day, not because we think were cool… but because… why not! We spend our days working hard to not only be successful in our local business but getting involved and contributing to the community where we can. We dress for the occasion whether is be casually cool or a dress that SJP would be envious of and of an evening, you’ll find us frequenting the bars, restaurants of Leigh with our close knit of friends….
So are you a Leighite? Well ive realised I am and whatever people may think, im proud of it!
