Town Council and Tin Teams working together to fight hunger

News from www.leighonseatowncouncil.gov.uk

Leigh-on-Sea Tin Team was formed by a group of residents who got inspired by the weekly clapping for carers, from here they decided to start gathering supplies for local foodbanks. The group gained in numbers very quickly, and now collect items on the first Thursday evening or first Saturday morning of each month from around the whole town.

The collections are distributed among the town’s main foodbanks; One Love Soup Kitchen, Southend Foodbank, The Salvation Army, Harp and St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Leigh-on-Sea Town Council have recently stepped in to aid the Tin Teams, by giving them a room at Leigh Community Centre to store donations.

Now that we have gone into a further lockdown, the reliance on foodbanks may become even greater. If you would like to donate any long-life, larder cupboard items get in touch with the Tin Teams at www.tinteams.org, or if you have a few hours spare, you can also offer to volunteer.

Leigh-on-Sea Town Council are also happy to accept donations at Leigh Community Centre, Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm, and will be setting up a drop box in the foyer in the coming days.
