Traders and Residents To Enjoy Free Festive Parking
Traders and residents to enjoy free festive parking
Friday 14th November 2014
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council has delivered an early gift to local residents and businesses as it announces free festive parking ahead of the Christmas shopping rush.
All council run car parks across the Borough will be free on Thursdays after 4pm and all day Sunday throughout December.
Cllr Martin Terry, Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste & Transport, said:
“We want Southend to be open for business all year but we also know how important the Christmas period is for local traders and residents. That is why we are continuing to offer free festive parking in all council run car parks across the Borough after 4pm on Thursdays and all day Sunday throughout December.
“Parking will also be free all day on Saturday 6th December in seven council run car parks across the Borough as part of Small Business Saturday.
“Shoppers and people visiting the town during these times can now spend their time concentrating on shopping and discovering what else the town has to offer. This announcement builds on the trial already underway offering free parking in three seafront car parks after 6pm every day.
“I hope that retailers will also benefit from this scheme and enjoy a bumper Christmas.”
The free seafront parking trial is until 31st March 2015 and applies in the Seaways, Fairheads Green and Western Esplanade car parks.
Free all day parking on Saturday 6th December to celebrate Small Business Saturday will be available at the following car parks: Ilfracombe Avenue, North Road, Hamlet Court Road, El m Road (Leigh-on-Sea), North Street, Ceylon Road and Thorpe Bay Broadway.
In the lead up to Small Business Saturday, the council will be encouraging people to support their neighbourhood’s small firms and urging small retailers across the Borough to showcase their business. A competition is also being run in partnership with Southend United Football Club - to find Southend-on-Sea’s Best Festive Business. To register your business to get involved in Small Business Saturday, please email: economicd@southend.gov.uk.
