Vacant seafront unit ready to launch as Twenty One

July 23, 2017 by Southend Borough Council

A new cultural venue is ready to open its doors just five months after planning consent was granted by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s planning officers.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Focal Point Gallery are delighted to announce the opening of Twenty One: a brand new cultural space at the heart of Southend’s famous seafront. A launch event for the venue and inaugural exhibition ‘100% Southend’ will take place on Thursday 27 July from 6.00pm.

The space has been developed to celebrate the vibrant creative community in Southend. The space will offer visitors to the seafront a gallery space with a café, patio, kitchen and seating areas. In the evening, the space will easily convert into a performance venue to showcase the range of artistic talent in the town.

The building will be incorporated with activities and events from Focal Point Gallery.

Cllr Ann Holland, Executive Councillor for Culture, Tourism and the Economy, said: “It is fantastic news that Twenty One is open in time for the busy summer months.

“The continued work that has been put in to the seafront and surrounding areas is our way of promoting the wonderful tourist opportunities available in Southend-on-Sea.

“We thrive on our growing cultural scene and the addition of Twenty One gives residents and visitors the opportunity to take in a real cultural experience with stunning views of the estuary."
