Southend Choir Create Virtual Recording for the NHS

May 25, 2020

Unable to meet in their usual weekly rehearsals, the Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs have spent the last few weeks creating a virtual choir recording. 85 singers, including former choir members, joined together in a virtual recording of “We are One”, to raise funds for the NHS Charities Together Fund. The choirs are used to singing together to raise money for a variety of charities throughout the year. At this very strange time, unable to perform together, the singers have come together virtually, from around the world, to try to raise £1,000 for the NHS. Directed by Roger Humphrey and Rosemary Pennington, with audio and video editing by Dan and Emma Stephens, singers from across the world joined in this project, from the youngest primary school aged singers to professional soloists who were former choir members lent their voices to this recording. This year also marks 50 years of the Southend Boys’ Choir, and that in 2019 The Southend Girls’ Choir celebrated their 30 th anniversary. “We are One” by Brian Tate, included singers from across the UK, US, Australia and Europe, joining in harmony to recognise our wonderful NHS.
