What makes a good comedy show?

For me, any good comedy is full of controlled chaos: plenty of misunderstandings, mistaken identities and mishaps, all culminating in a crazy climax.

And Rachel Dingle’s show The Camping Farce, which is touring to village halls around Rochford in September, is full to the brim with all the things a comedy show should have.

Three incredibly talented actresses play a dozen different roles, telling the story of Ava and Bella, who go camping to try and get away from it all… only to find themselves in the middle of a madcap story of romantic entanglement, artistic ambition and the hunt for a rare bird.

In order to create all the on-stage chaos you need for a good comedy, there ironically needs to be a lot of control behind the scenes, what with all the costume changes and the multitude of props… and that’s before you take the show to five different locations! Thankfully the show is underpinned by a wonderfully organised team who are serving up a fresh slice of original comedy straight to your doorstep.

The Camping Farce is part of a wider season of theatre, comedy and craft events being presented all across Rochford this Autumn, funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund via Rochford District Council. Tickets are available at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/showupsouthend , with Pay What You Can tickets available for those who need them.
