Why not try a train?

Friday 17th April 2015

A special try a train day on Thursday 23rd April aims to get tentative passengers back on track.

This free event, starting from 10am on the north side of Southend Central Station is being run by train company c2c, the Ideas in Motion team and the Council’s Public Health section.

The council’s head of planning and transport, Peter Geraghty said: “We especially want to encourage older people to take this up this opportunity if they haven’t travelled by train for a few years, or would like to be more confident about having a day out by train.

“Those reaching retirement might find this venture particularly helpful as it will flag up the benefits of different travel opportunities they may not have considered earlier.

“This will be an ideal opportunity to ask lots of questions about all aspects of train travel.

“We are very happy to offer support if people are nervous about coming along – or they can bring a travel buddy with them, as well as a picnic to eat on the train if they wish.”

Places must be booked beforehand via Karen Mpande on 01702 212822 or karenmpande@southend.gov.uk

There are nine stations in Southend and train travel is very comfortable as well as affordable.

c2c offers special Senior Rover tickets for just £5 in Southend and for travel inside London fare zones, for just £9.

More active travel training events are planned in future so if you cannot make this date you can always add your name to the waiting list for cycle, bus or train travel support and training, at:www.ideasinmotionsouthend.co.uk
