Your Pride and Joy pictures to air on The Big Screen
An array of photos taken by local people and visitors, showing the best of our coastline, will be showcased on The Big Screen from next week.
In July Southend-on-Sea Borough Council launched the #PrideAndJoy campaign asking residents to share photos showing the best of our Borough. The campaign asked for snaps of coastal photos to be posted via Instagram with a chance to see them on The Big Screen outside the Forum, Elmer Square and digital busts stops across the Borough.
Since then, residents and visitors have been tagging the councils Instagram with hundreds of fantastic photos of the Southend-on-Sea coastline all the way from Leigh-on-Sea to Shoeburyness.
Signs encouraging residents to send us their photos were installed along the seafront and with social media posts reaching over 72,500 people we received over 300 photos.
A celebratory video created with a selection of photos will air on The Big Screen every day from 17 - 30 September between 1pm and 2pm.
Cllr Kevin Robinson, cabinet member for business, culture and tourism said “From dusk till dawn to night time views, beaches, boats, the pier and even pets, the range of photos received from all levels of photographer has been amazing.
“The response to our #PrideAndJoy Campaign has been wonderful and I would like to thank everyone who took part in creating our first Pride and Joy screening. I am looking forward to seeing the community’s photos displayed on the Big Screen.”
Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment and planning said: “We have a beautiful vibrant coastline, attracting residents and visitors daily.
“We have received many amazing and creative photos showing what people love about our seafront. I hope many will visit The Big Screen to see what our community has created and feel inspired to take part.”
The next theme for Southend’s #PrideAndJoy campaign will be announced in the coming weeks. If you would like to take part in the current campaign, simply snap a photo, tag it #PrideAndJoy and tag us @SouthendBC.
